Front Porch: Find vaudeville on Camano Island

A benefit vaudeville performance for the Camano Island Free Outdoor Cinema is set for 8:15 tonight.

It's at Chumleighland at the corner of E. Camano Drive and Dallman Road on south Camano Island.

Gates open at 6 p.m. for picnics and an opening show. Tickets are available at www.chumleigh.com or at the gate. The show features several funnymen, including local vaudevillian R. Chumleigh and Avner the Eccentric, star of stage and screen.

Fire department fundraiser today: The Oso Fire Department's annual barbecue and auction fundraiser begins at 4 p.m. today at the fire hall along Highway 530 east of Arlington.

Salmon and burgers are on the menu. Cost is $12 for adults, $7 for seniors and children. Those who bring a nonperishable donation to the Oso food bank get a discount.

Auction items include gravel, cedar planters, services and plants.

Eat local food: Discuss a book called "Plenty: Eating Locally on the 100-Mile Diet," by Alisa Smith and J.B. MacKinnon, on Tuesday in Stanwood.

Join a 2009 Stanwood-Camano Together We Read program at 7 p.m. at the Stanwood Library, 9701 271st St. NW.

Learn how to follow a diet eating foods that come from within 100 miles of home.
