Court agrees to seal photos of abused boy
EVERETT Graphic photographs of a boy who nearly starved to death will be removed from a public court file.
Snohomish County Superior Court Judge Eric Lucas Wednesday granted the states request to seal about two dozen images of Shayne Abegg, now 7.
The photographs were part of the public court record in a civil lawsuit brought against the state Department of Social and Health Services, a contract social worker and his employer.
The state and others agreed in May to pay Shayne $6 million following allegations that the state and the contract social worker failed to recognize ongoing abuse against Shayne.
Sheriffs deputies and fire personnel rescued the boy, who weighed only 25 pounds, from his fathers Lynnwood apartment in 2007. His father Danny Abegg and the mans live-in girlfriend Marilea Mitchell are serving 8-year prison sentences for mistreating Shayne.
