MONROE -- A young man in a wheelchair was hit by a car this afternoon while he was trying to cross the street.

Medics rushed to the intersection of W. Main and N. Kelsey streets about 3:20 p.m., Snohomish County Fire District 3 spokeswoman Richelle Risdon said. Medics drove him to Valley General Hospital.

The Monroe man, 19, suffered minor injuries, Monroe police spokeswoman Debbie Willis said.

The man was trying to cross W. Main Street in his motorized wheelchair when he was struck by a 1990 Toyota Camry, she said. The driver, a 41-year-old Marysville man, told police he didn't see the man in the westbound lane.

There is no traffic light at the intersection. The man was in at unmarked crossing, Willis said.

The collision is under investigation.
