Arlington: Learn about ancient Egypt

Arlington’s parks and recreation program offers a free lecture series by local history enthusiast Frank Barden.

The series is set for 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesdays, Oct. 7 through Nov. 18, then resuming Jan. 20 to Feb. 24 at Olympic Place Retirement Community, 20909 Olympic Place, Arlington.

Barden plans to talk about prehistoric Egypt, the Rosetta Stone, hieroglyphs, the pyramid builders and some of the great pharaohs.

Arlington: Genealogy group sets open house

The Stillaguamish Valley Genealogy Society plans to host an open house from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the society’s library, 135 N. Olympic Ave., Arlington.

Steve Baylor plans to discuss, “Finding Your Ancestors, No Matter Where They Came From,” at 1 p.m.

Oso: Community center needs helpers

The quarterly meeting of the Oso Community Center is set for 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Old Oso School on Highway 530.

People who want to volunteer to help the nonprofit board of directors of the center are encouraged to attend.

Stanwood: Fundraiser for Oktoberfest today

Stanwood Community and Senior Center offers its annual Oktoberfest Celebration from 6 to 8 tonight at the center, 7430 276th St. NW, Stanwood.

Proceeds from the event support the programs and services at the center.

The event includes a meal of bratwurst, sauerkraut, sweet and sour red cabbage, German potato salad, green beans, rolls, beer, wine or soda and a variety of German desserts.

Hugo’s Accordion Band is scheduled to perform.

Tickets are $10 or $5 for those 12 and younger.

Stanwood: Teens to test their stomachs

Test your stomach and your stamina with some disgusting menu items at Stanwood Library’s latest teen program, which is fashioned after TV’s “Fear Factor.”

At 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, teens are invited to show the strength of their stomachs. Winners will be awarded prizes. The library is located at 9701 271st St. NW.
