EdCC cable channel plans forum on Referendum 71 on Monday
LYNNWOOD — “Civic Engagement,” a public affairs show airing on the Edmonds Community College cable channel, will host a town hall-style forum on Referendum 71 next week.
It is scheduled for Monday in the Black Box Theater at Edmonds Community College, 20000 68th Ave. W., Lynnwood. A limited number of seats are available for the event which will be taped for later broadcast on cable channels 21 and 26.
Doors are scheduled to open at 7 p.m. with taping to begin at 7:30 p.m.
Ref. 71 asks voters to approve or reject the latest expansion of Washington law involving rights of gay and senior couples registered with the state in domestic partnerships.
Rep. Marko Liias, D-Mukilteo, and Joe Mirabella of Seattle will represent those endorsing a vote to approve the referendum.
Providing the opposing view will be Joseph Backholm, executive director of the Lynnwood-based Family Policy Institute of Washington, and a member of Protect Marriage Washington, the group that successfully qualified the measure for the ballot.
Host D.J. Wilson will moderate a discussion by panelists, then invite some questions from audience members.
Of 200 available seats, 30 will be reserved for students and faculty. The remaining seats will be divided equally between advocates of the two sides.
Tickets are free but must be reserved in advance.
