Good news first?

The Buzz is feeling a bit ambivalent today, which must mean it's time for a little Good News, Bad News.

The Good News: NASA scientists say the likelihood of a large asteroid striking the Earth in 2036 has decreased to a 1-in-250,000 chance from 1 in 45,000.

The Bad News: The reason you don't need to worry about the world ending in 2036 is because Nostradamus, the ancient Mayans and the Discovery Channel are certain the lights go out in 2012.

The Good News: Personal finance columnist Michele Singletary says it's safe once again to invest for your retirement in a workplace 401(k).

The Bad News: Now the trick is finding a workplace that will hire you.

The Good News: The federal government has a plan to sterilize and relocate thousands of wild horses in order to manage the exploding equine population on public lands.

The Bad News: Looks like your 12-year-old daughter is getting the pony she wanted.
