Everett Symphony season opens

Violinist Svend Ronning will help sound Beethoven's thunder, then perform a violin virtuoso interpreting Sibelius' impossibly complex frustration and also take on Tchaikovsky's guilt-tortured life.

Ronning has the experience to handle it all when he performs as the guest violinist during “Romance of Camelot,” the Everett Symphony's season opener.

Ronning is chairman of the string division at Pacific Lutheran University, where he is associate professor of music and a violinist with the Regency String Quartet.

He is also one of the most active performers in the Puget Sound area, serving as concertmaster of the Tacoma Symphony Orchestra as well as performing as a frequent soloist, recitalist, chamber musician and recording artist.

Ronning joins the Everett Symphony for a performance of great masters. Works include Symphony No.6, Opus 68, in F Major (“Pastorale”) by Beethoven, Concerto for Violin, Opus 47 in D Minor by Jean Sibelius, “Camelot” selections and some Tchaikovsky.

The Everett Symphony will dedicate this opening night concert as part of the annual Daniel Pearl World Music Days network to celebrate how music helps people focus on a common humanity. Everett Mayor Ray Stephanson will offer a dedication to Daniel Pearl to begin the concert.

Daniel Pearl World Music Days started in 2002 to honor the birthday of Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl, an accomplished musician who was murdered by terrorists in Pakistan in 2002.

“Through music we have the power to convey the universal... pain and joy, sorrow and happiness,” Everett Symphony conductor Paul-Elliott Cobbs said.

“Where verbal language has limitations, musical expression is boundless and can penetrate the soul. The musical works presented in our season opener will both relax and invigorate, as well as inspire.”
