Ÿ MLT Anytime is Mountlake Terrace’s newest customer service, providing easy online access to city services 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Beginning Thursday, Oct. 15, citizens can enter a request, suggestion or comment on the city’s Web site, www.cityofmlt.com. Ÿ Washington state veterans that have applied for and not yet received their Post-9/11 GI tuition assistance can apply for an emergency advance payment from the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). More information on the VA’s emergency advance payment program is at www.gibill.va.gov/advpay.htm.


Election events

Ÿ Mountlake Terrace Meet the Candidates, 7 p.m. Oct. 22. Sponsored by the Mountlake Terrace Senior Center, the event will be at the library, 23300 58th Ave. W.


Transportation news

Ÿ Washington State Ferries have increased fares 2.5 percent. For the Edmonds-Kingston route, passenger fares rose 20 cents to $6.90. The car and driver full-fare rate went up 30 cents to $11.85. A 20-ride commuter card is now $189.60, up $4.80. For more fares, visit www.wsdot.wa.gov/ferries.

Ÿ Amtrak has added service to the Cascades train route between Seattle and Vancouver, B.C., making a stop at the Edmonds station. The second train will operate through the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympics Winter Games.


Community action

Ÿ Snohomish County is recruiting members for a technical advisory committee to review applications for affordable housing, public facilities, and public service projects that benefit low-income people. Citizens and representatives of the following groups are needed: low income, homeless or formerly homeless, disabled, minority and senior citizens. Letters of interest should include your name, address, home phone, work phone, category represented, your area of experience and reasons for wanting to serve. Previous TAC members may apply. Ÿ In honor of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, the city of Mountlake Terrace will hold a free community training from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Oct. 21 at the library, 23300 58th Ave. W. To register or if you would like to have a purple light to display, call Coordinator Danielle Singson at 425-744-6257.

Ÿ Dog attacks have been reported in off-leash dog parks in Seattle and Edmonds over the past two weeks. Police departments and parks departments in Edmonds, Mountlake Terrace and Shoreline are closely monitoring their off-leash areas.


Senior notes

Ÿ Alzheimer’s Association caregiver support groups provide a consistent and caring place for people to learn, share and gain emotional support from others who are also on a unique journey of providing care to a person with memory loss. A free information and support group for care partners, family members and friends of individuals with memory loss will be held from 10 to 11:30 a.m. the first Wednesday of each month at the South County Senior Center, Classroom B, 220 Railroad Ave. in Edmonds. Ÿ The Greater Edmonds Chamber of Commerce meeting on Oct. 22 will be addressed by James McCusker, economist, educator and contributor for the Snohomish County Business Journal and The Daily Herald.
