Everett: Paine Field road named for artist
Snohomish County has named a new road at Paine Field for the late Everett artist Bernie Webber. A dedication ceremony was held Friday for Bernie Webber Drive, which provides access to the west side of the airport from Mukilteo Speedway at Chennault Beach Road.
Webber was an aviation enthusiast and once served as a commissioner for the airport, which is run by Snohomish County. Webber is best known for his watercolors, many featuring Snohomish County leaders and landmarks such as Paine Field. He was born in 1923 and died in 2006.
The road leads to the new Historic Flight Foundation museum, due to open early next year, and could eventually be extended to serve any further development on the west side of the airport. The road was financed with $900,000 from the county and a contribution from the Historic Flight Foundation.
Lake Stevens: Holiday giving program begins
The Lake Stevens Family Center is planning a holiday program to benefit families experiencing serious financial hardship, low-income seniors, and dependent adults with developmental disabilities.
People may contribute to the Christmas Giving Program in a number of ways. Businesses can host a giving tree; shoppers can fill their carts with additional items for a person in need; cash or gift cards may be donated to the family center; people may purchase gifts for a particular family or individual. Volunteers may assist with distributing tags, collecting gifts and filling bags. Anyone who believes they might be eligible as a recipient may apply by Nov. 5. Applicants must live in the 98258 or 98205 ZIP codes to be eligible.
