Gold Bar council seat filled
Kelly Broyles will fill the empty spot on the Gold Bar City Council after serving on the planning commission.
GOLD BAR — Mayor Joe Beavers has mixed feelings about Kelly Broyles taking his old seat on the City Council.
On the one hand, Beavers sees it as a gain for the council. On the other hand, it means Broyles will have to leave the planning commission.
“He (Broyles) was a very strong person on the planning commission, and now that he’s on the council, we have a need to fill that spot,” Beavers said.
Beavers vacated his council seat when he took over as mayor for Crystal Hill, who resigned in July. Broyles was appointed to the seat by a unanimous council vote on Oct. 6.
Broyles, 42, applied for the seat with two other applicants. All were strong candidates, but Broyles’ knowledge of city government and his active role in the community set him apart, Beavers said.
Broyles is a married father of six who has lived in Gold Bar for 12 years. He works for Washington Energy Services, verifying specifications on window orders, he said. He also leads a Cub Scout pack and is active in the Sultan LDS Church.
He will finish the last two years of Beavers’ council term. During that time, he hopes to manage growth while boosting Gold Bar’s visibility as a tourist destination.
“That’s my biggest goal, to help ensure the city runs smoothly, looks nice and people want to come there,” he said.
