Three minor injuries after Bellevue school bus rear-ended on Highway 9

CLEARVIEW — A Bellevue School District bus was rear-ended by a dump truck on Highway 9 about 1:40 p.m. today, sending three children to the hospital with what were believed to be minor injuries, a Washington State Patrol trooper said.

The southbound bus was returning from a field trip when the accident happened just north of 201st Street S.E., trooper Brandon Lee said. The bus slowed as it approached traffic and was struck by a dump truck carrying wood chips, Lee said.

The highway’s southbound lane could be closed until 4:30 p.m. Traffic was being routed around the accident in the northbound lane, Lee said.

In all, 44 children, ages 8 to 10, were on the bus. Three were taken to a nearby hospital to be checked for minor injuries, Lee said. No other injuries were reported.

The accident is under investigation.
