PREP ROUNDUP: Lakewood girls soccer gains upper hand going into districts DUVALL — With Lakewood and Cedarcrest still locked in a battle for the Cascade Conference’s second seed to districts, it wasn’t a surprise that Saturday’s regular season finale went into overtime.Thanks to Alisha Stott, Lakewood will have home field advantage when District 1 playoffs start next week. Stott scored off an assist from Kennady Bonnallie in the first overtime period, and Lakewood defeated Cedarcrest 1-0 in a Cascade Conference soccer game Saturday at Cedarcrest High School. “We just couldn’t find the net,” Cedarcrest head coach Denis Watts said of his team, which Watts said at one point had out-shot Lakewood 35-12. “We were just too pumped up.” Watts credited Lakewood keeper Miranda Head and the rest of the Lakewood defense. “Miranda did a great job,” Watts said. “They had solid defense, and packed the goal.” Lakewood improved to 10-4 in league and 12-4 overall with the win. Lakewood will host the Northwest Conference’s No. 3 seed this coming Saturday. Cedarcrest, which fell to 9-5 in league and 10-5-1 overall, will travel to Bellingham to play the Northwest Conference’s No. 2 seed. Kori Butterfield started in goal for Cedarcrest. “Props to Lakewood,” Watts said. “(It’s) a great win for them.” South Whidbey 4, Coupeville 1: At Langley, Jessica Manca scored in the eighth minute (Brianna Haimes assist), Laurie Robinson scored in the 25th minute (Manca) and Anna Lennon scored in the 37th and 78th (Julia Iversen) minutes to lead South Whidbey to the Cascade Conference win. Jordan Akins scored for Coupeville in the 34th minute. Natasha Kamps was the goalkeeper for South Whidbey (4-10-0, 5-11-0), as was Ashley Manker for Coupeville (2-12-0, 4-12-0) Archbishop Murphy 2, King’s 1 (shootout): At Shoreline, Hillary Zevenbergen (Taylor Hauck assist) gave King’s the lead in just the second minute of the Cascade Conference game, a lead that would stand for most of the game. But, in the 77th minute Sam Pettinger (Lindsey Bos) tied the score at 1-1. The score would remain tied through overtime, sending the game to a shootout. In the shootout, the Wildcats outscored King’s 4-2 to get the win. Julie Connelly started at goalkeeper for Archbishop Murphy (14-0, 16-0), Alexa Hughes relieved Connelly for overtime and the shootout. Maddy McDevitt was in goal for King’s (9-5, 10-5). Boys soccer Shoreline Christian 6, Orcas Island 1: At Eastsound, Shoreline Christian’s Travis Hudson scored in the eighth (Jin Suk Seo and Keith Jacobs assists), 10th (Sean Lidstrom), 23rd (Suk Seo), 58th (Suk Seo) and 65th minutes (Suk Seo) in the Northwest 2B win. Suk Seo (Hudson) added a goal for Shoreline Christian (2-3-0 league, 7-4-1 overall) in the 28th minute. Fernando Arevalo scored for Orcas Island (0-2-0, 2-4-1) in the 40th minute. Goalkeepers for both schools were not reported. Football Orcas Island 20, Concrete 0: At Orcas Island, Orcas Island had 251 yards rushing led by Michael Langworth with 12 carries for 79 yards and one touchdown to lead Orcas Island to the Northwest 2B win. Domonique Griffen finished second (286.85), Neva Mahler finished third (283.70) and Jacqueline Blackmore finished fourth (276.15), Griffen, Mahler and Blackmore all go to Glacier Peak. Glacier Peak’s Samantha Limesand finished fifth (243.95). Volleyball Shoreline Christian 3, Orcas Island 0: At Eastsound, Shoreline Christian (8-2 league, 10-2 overall) defeated Orcas Island (3-7, 5-8) by scores of 25-20, 25-16 and 25-21. Laura Kredit had nine kills and five blocks, Anne Marie Visser had 19 assists and Megan Bauman had six kills and three digs for Shoreline Christian. Tennis 2A District 1 Championship: At Bellingham, South Whidbey’s Riley Newman won the 2A District 1 singles championship Saturday at Sehome High School, defeating Sehome’s Will Topp 6-3, 6-4. Van Morgan of South Whidbey placed fourth at districts after losing 1-6, 4-6. The top three seeds qualify for 2A state. |
