Terrace duo captures Wesco South crown

MILL CREEK

Joe Kim and Chris Raunio of Mountlake Terrace completed an undefeated Wesco South season with a victory in the doubles championship Oct. 23 at Jackson High School.

Kim and Raunio, who were 7-0 in league meets, defeated Jake Lagucik and Youngha Kim of Edmonds-Woodway 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 in the final.

“They are two of the best boys any coach could ask to coach,” Mountlake Terrace coach Alberto Ramirez said. “They’re very disciplined and dedicated to the sport.

“It was a well-played match by both sides.”

Kim and Raunio advance to this week’s 4A District 1 meet at Stanwood as the South’s No. 1 seed and will meet the Wesco North’s No. 4 seed in the first round.

Meanwhile, Jackson’s Mitch Williamson won the singles championship, defeating Shorewood’s Scott McConnell 6-3, 7-5 in the final.
