Ljungberg recorded four assists in leading Seattle to a 3-0-0 record during the month, and a berth in the 2009 MLS playoffs. The Sounders open postseason play Thursday night at home against Houston. Seattle entered the final month of the regular season on the playoff bubble with a 9-7-11 record. Behind the play of Ljungberg, the Sounders FC scored nine points in October to finish as the third seed in the Western Conference. Ljungberg is the first Swedish player to be named MLS Player of the Month.
