PREP ROUNDUP: Williamson wins 4A singles crown

STANWOOD — It took three sets, but Mitch Williamson finally clinched the 4A District 1 singles title.

Williamson of Jackson defeated Shorewood’s Scott McConnell 7-6 (7-4 in a tiebreaker), 2-6, 7-5 to earn the No. 1 seed to the state tournament in May. Both players will be in the tournament, as will a third player that is yet to be determined.

Trevor Amsberry (Monroe) and Andrew Lee (Kamiak) both won consolation semifinal matches and will face each other today at 3 p.m. at Mill Creek Tennis Club for the final singles spot.

In doubles, the Edmonds-Woodway team of Jake Lagucik and Youngha Kim defeated Joe Kim and Chris Raunio (Mountlake Terrace) 6-1, 6-3. Like the singles bracket, there will be another match today to determine the final doubles team to the state tournament. It will either be the team of Robin Choi and David Kim from Jackson or the Kamiak duo of Brian Ko and the other David Kim.

The final team standings were also decided, with Jackson taking the team title, dethroning last season’s champ Kamiak, which finished second. Edmonds-Woodway finished third followed by Shorewood and Mountlake Terrace, which tied for fourth.
