Jackson basketball star selects Seattle Pacific

Ryan Todd, a well-rounded guard from Jackson High School, has verbally committed to play for the Seattle Pacific University men's basketball team.

Todd is a senior who, along with junior Brett Kingma, is part of a superb backcourt combo for Jackson, which is expected to be one of the area's best boys basketball squads this winter.

Todd was an All-Wesco South first team selection last season (2008-2009). He was one of just two non-seniors on the first team. Todd also made The Herald's All-Area first team.

Todd gave his verbal commitment to Seattle Pacific coach Ryan Looney on Saturday at SPU's campus, Todd's dad said. Todd plans to sign an NCAA National Letter of Intent next month.

Here is a list of other recent local student-athlete commitments previously not reported in The Herald's print version.

n Meadowdale's Julia Fjortoft (Gonzaga University soccer)

n Archbishop Murphy's Shelby Lyman (Cornell University basketball)

n Jackson's Alana Pazevic (University of Florida swimming)

n Archbishop Murphy's Sam Pettinger (University of the Pacific basketball)
