Tips’ Froese picked to play vs. Russians

CALGARY, Alberta — Everett Silvertips center Byron Froese was selected Thursday to represent Team WHL in the Canada-Russia Super Series.

The 18-year-old Froese will suit up for Team WHL on Nov. 25, when the WHL all-stars take on a traveling Russian all-star team in the first of two games against WHLers.

The honor means Froese, who has five goals and six assists in 11 games, will be unavailable when the Tips play host to the Spokane Chiefs on Nov. 25.

The Tips also made a roster addition Thursday, calling up 18-year-old left wing Scott MacDonald. MacDonald was playing for the Westside Warriors of the British Columbia Hockey League, where in 15 games he had eight goals and 12 assists. MacDonald helps replace Paul Van de Velde, who was traded to Brandon earlier in the week.
