The convincing victory was a little different from the final two games undefeated Everett played in the regular season, when it beat Monroe and Lake Stevens in shootouts. Monroe and Lake Stevens are two of the tougher 4A teams in the Wesco conference, both jumped to early leads over the Seagulls, but couldn’t hang on. “I think it was important that the girls saw that they could come back,” Everett head coach Kosta Pitharoulis said. “We never set out to go undefeated, it just happened.” There was no need for Everett to come back against Lynnwood. Kylie Beeson started the scoring in the eighth minute, Madison Taylor (Beeson) scored in the 17th minute, Sele Vance scored in the 20th minute, Cherise Shaver (Annie Sittauer) scored in the 35th minute, Sittauer scored in the 50th minute and Makaela Nellams scored the final three Seagull goals in the 55th minute (Adrienne Muramoto), 65th minute (Morgan McCarty) and 75th minute (Gabrielle Wagonblast). Katie Johnson was the goalkeeper for Everett (17-0-0). Natalie Cachopo was in goal for Lynnwood (2-15-0). Pitharoulis said the Seagulls were a little beat up going into the playoffs after the two competitive games to end the regular season. “As nice as it is to play stiff competition going into districts, it takes a toll on their bodies,” Pitharoulis said. Everett’s win over Lynnwood sets up a quarterfinal match up with Meadowdale. “Meadowdale had a fine season,” Pitharoulis said. “It’s going to be interesting playing at a neutral site.” The Seagulls face the task of containing forward Julia Fjortoft, who has been a goal scoring machine for the Mavericks. “Just being aware of a player of her caliber is important,” Pitharoulis said. “As far as preparation, we’ve never played her, so it’s tough to prepare for that. Meadowdale 2, Ferndale 1 (shootout): At Ferndale, Meadowdale outshot Ferndale 4-1 in the shootout to win the 3A District 1 playoff game. Danielle Lange scored for Ferndale in the 24th minute. Julia Fjortoft was the goal scorer for Meadowdale (11-5-1) in the 59th minute. Julia Grossenbacher was the goalkeeper for Meadowdale. Ferndale’s goalkeeper was not reported. Meadowdale advanced to a quarterfinal game against defending state champion Everett at 5:30 p.m., Tuesday at Mount Vernon H.S. Glacier Peak 3, Sedro-Woolley 0: At Snohomish, Brooke Gilbert (Hailey Garrity assist) scored in the 20th minute, Sami Boggs (Miranda Granger) scored in the 34th minute and Sarah Desautels (Malloy Leahy) scored in the 67th minute to lead Glacier Peak to the 3A District 1 playoff win. Nicole Giovine was the goalkeeper for Glacier Peak (13-3-1). Danelle Osborn and Emilie Moser split time in goal for Sedro-Woolley (4-13-0). Glacier Peak advanced to quarterfinal game against Mount Vernon at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday at Mount Vernon H.S. Mount Vernon 2, Shorecrest 1: At Mt. Vernon, Tia Brogna scored for Mount Vernon in the 23rd minute and Ashley Morrison scored in the 38th minute on a penalty kick to lead the Bulldogs to the 3A District 1 playoff victory. Jessica Rankin scored for Shorecrest in the 77th minute. Chelsey Doyle was the goalkeeper for Shorecrest (7-8-2). Elizabeth Keck was the goalkeeper for Mount Vernon (16-1-0). Mount Vernon hosts Glacier Peak in a quarterfinal game at 7:30 p.m, Tuesday. Stanwood 2, Shorewood 0: At Shoreline, Riley Henderson (Keanae Loera) scored in the 17th minute and Kalina Eveland (Henderson) scored in the 73rd minute for Stanwood in the 4A District 1 play-in game. Haley Haugstad was in goal for Stanwood (7-8-2), as was Madison Hollenbeck for Shorewood (7-9-1). Stanwood advanced to play Snohomish at 7 p.m., Monday at Snohomish H.S. Shorewood was eliminated from postseason play. Lakewood 2, Bellingham 1 (shootout): At Marysville, Lakewood goalkeeper Miranda Head made two saves in the shootout and Kelsey Anderson sealed the 2A District 1 playoff win, making good on the Cougars’ sixth penalty kick. Mariah Smith (Erin Dierieckx assist) scored in the third minute for Lakewood (13-4). Jade Thurston tied the score for Bellingham (10-7) in the 65th minute. Lakewood advanced to a winner-to-state semifinal at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Cedarcrest H.S. Archbishop Murphy 4, Burlington-Edison 0: At Everett, Archbishop Murphy’s Sam Pettinger scored two goals, both assisted by Lindsey Bos, in the 10th and 77th minutes to lead the Wildcats to the 2A District 1 playoff win. Caroline Brawner (Bos) scored in the 56th minute and Bos (Jess Ficklin) added a goal in the 79th minute for the Wildcats. Alexa Hughes and Julie Connelly split time at goalkeeper for Archbishop Murphy (17-0-0). Heaven Henry was the goalkeeper for Burlington-Edison (10-5-2). Archbishop Murphy advanced to a winner-to-state semifinal against Cedarcrest at 5 p.m., Tuesday at Cedarcrest H.S. Cedarcrest 1, Squalicum 0: At Bellingham, Gwen Bieck (Maggie Pleis assist) scored in the 52nd minute to give Cedarcrest the 2A District 1 playoff win. Kori Butterfield was the goalkeeper for Cedarcrest (11-5-1). Kara Merfeld was in goal for Squalicum (11-6-0). Cedarcrest hosts a winner-to-state semifinal against Archbishop Murphy at 5 p.m., Tuesday. Sehome 2, Granite Falls 0: At Bellingham, Jessica Bertucci scored for Sehome in the 43rd minute. Sehome scored again in the 78th minute of the 2A District 1 playoff game, but the goal scorer was not reported. Kelsey Carlson was the goalkeeper for Granite Falls (10-7-0). Rachel Albert was in goal for Sehome (16-1-0). Sehome advanced to a winner-to-state semifinal against Lakewood at 7 p.m., Tuesday at Cedarcrest H.S. Granite Falls faces Bellingham at 7 p.m., Thursday in a loser-out game at Cedarcrest H.S. King’s 4, Meridian 1: At Oak Harbor, Hillary Zevenbergen scored in the 19th minute (Jodi VanGorkom assist) and 64th minute, Hillary Quinn scored in the 52nd minute and VanGorkom scored in the 68th minute (Zevenbergen). Carolyn Dapper was the goalkeeper for King’s. Meridian’s goalkeeper was not reported. King’s (12-5-0) won the District 1 championship and advanced to the 1A Tri-district playoffs with district’s No. 1 seed. Meridian (2-15-0) received the No. 2 seed. Boys soccer Providence Classical Christian 3, La Conner 1: At Everett, Kyle McKnight put La Conner ahead early, scoring in the first minute, but Providence Classical Christian repsonded. Andrew Moisant scored in the 17th minute (Ryan Morris assist) and 60th minute (Caleb Moisant). Caleb Moisant (Eric Moisant) added a goal in the 62nd minute for PCC. Luke Morris was the goalkeeper for PCC (9-4-2), as was Taylor Fay for La Conner (11-3-1). PCC advances to 2B/1B Tri-district playoffs with District 1’s No. 1 seed, La Conner received the No. 2 seed. Mount Vernon Christian 2, Shoreline Christian 1 (shootout): At Everett, Mount Vernon Vernon Christian (10-6) secured the No. 3 seed to the 2B/1B Tri-district playoffs with the shootout victory over Shoreline Christian (9-6), which received the No. 4 seed. Keith Jacobs was the goal scorer for Shoreline Christian. North Sound Christian 2, Lopez Island 1 (shootout): At Everett, North Sound Christian outshot Lopez Island 5-2 in a shootout to earn the 2B/1B District 1 playoff win. Joseph Park (Tae Hong Kim assist) scored for North Sound Christian. Lopez Island scored in the 65th minute, the goal scorer was not reported. Dallas Van Ess and Barrett Jenness split time in goal for North Sound Christian. Josef Blanc-Ridings was the goalkeeper for Lopez Island. North Sound Christian (5-6-1) advanced to the Tri-district playoffs with the No. 5 seed. Lopez Island (3-11-0) was eliminated from postseason play. Volleyball 1A District 1 playoffs: At Lynden, King’s split two matches to finish with the second seed to the 1A Tri-district playoffs. The Knights (14-2 overall) hosts Charles Wright at 7 p.m., Thursday in the first round. Dionna Kirton had 37 kills and 20 digs, Anna Cesari had 60 assists and Nackenzie Daniels had 21 digs as King’s beat Meridian 25-10, 25-16, 25-21 and lost to Lynden Christian 25-18, 25-21, 26-24. Coupeville (9-8) won its opening round match against Nooksack Valley 3-2 (23-25, 21-25, 26-24, 25-22, 15-12), but lost in the second round to Lynden Christian (15-25, 13-25, 22-25). That set up a winner-to-tri-district, loser-out match against Meridian. Coupeville was eliminated 19-25, 25-22, 22-25, 28-26, 13-15. Jessica Riddle had 30 kills and 86 digs, Michelle Riddle had 22 kills and Julie Swankie had 91 assists on the day for Coupeville. Cross country 1A Tri-district meet: At Tacoma, Morgan Hamm finished fifth (20:10.50), Mackenzie Taylor finished sixth (20:20.80) and Adele Eslinger finished eighth (20:23.30) for King’s girls in the 5,000-meter race. Stephanie Rice finished 13th (20:59.80) and Sami McDevitt finished 20th (21:25.10) to round out King’s top-five finishers. In the boys 5,000-meter varsity race, Nate Faubion finished 19th (17:25.10), Ryan Gamache finished 23rd (17:28.40), Jared Clemens finished 50th (18:26.10), Jonathan Blauert finished 53rd (18:30.60) and Nick Lowe-Hale finished 80th (19:09.20) for King’s.
