Man shot near Lake Stevens reportedly had two handguns

LAKE STEVENS — Investigators say a man fatally shot by police Sunday evening apparently was carrying two firearms during a domestic violence confrontation with police.

"Detectives did locate two handguns at the scene. One was near the suspect, the second was on the suspect’s person," Everett police Sgt. Robert Goetz said this morning in a prepared statement.

No additional information was released about the man who died.

A domestic dispute call led officers to a home in the 10400 block of 25th Street SE near Lake Stevens shortly after 8 p.m. Sunday, said Goetz, who is a spokesman for the Snohomish County Multiple Agency Response Team. The special team of detectives investigates police shootings in the county.

The man, who was known to the person who made the 911 call, reportedly was attempting to force his way inside a home. Detectives found evidence supporting the allegation, Goetz said.

Two Lake Stevens police officers were the first on the scene.

They went inside and "an altercation with the suspect occurred," Goetz said. "The details of that altercation are still being investigated."

Detectives believe a 23-year-old Lake Stevens police officer shot the suspect. The officer, whose name was not released, has less than three years law enforcement experience, Goetz said.

No details were released about the slain man. Nobody else was injured during the incident, Goetz said.

Detectives today still were determining how the slain man and the people inside the home are connected, he said.

I always find it interesting to read the comments of articles written from a story where a cop shoots a citizen. (yes has happened a lot this year) There are always so many negative posts. Really do any of have any idea what it is like to be in their position. If a cop tells you to do something, FOLLOW their orders. Whether you think it is right or wrong DO WHAT THEY SAY, and deal with whatever you thought they were doing was wrong later. Do any of you have any idea what thier policy and procedures are after a shooting, what checks and balances they have prior to engaging with deadly force? If you dont then why say anything. For those of you who have been "terrorized" by the police... Why the hell you put yourself in that position. Yeah some of them can be @$$es. They have a family at home as well, one that wants them to come home after their shift. There job is to protect the life of the citizens and they also need to protect themselves, but since so many of you dont see it that way, why don't you go get a job as a cop. Then put yourself in the same position and see what you do. Although most of you are to Naive to even understand. You are the first to $%^&*, but will also be the first to complain when the cops don't help you. Get your head out of your... and thank them for placing their lives on the line for "US!"

While we are on the topic of police officer's I wanted to say RIP to Officer Brenton of the Seattle PD. You will never be forgotten.

Do what they say cause they have the guns right?!!!
So tell me "Watching over you" what are we suposto to do when were being told to do something and it ends up not even being a police officer? This is a sad situation were in these days! Trusting the police is a scarry situation now! How many have been shot in our area lately? Are you aware it's only going to get worse? The more cutback to the police the more our authoraties are going to be over worked!Causing for more casualties and bad judgement! The police are not the law they only enforce it and they are not all that well versed in the law! That's what our lawyers are for. And doing what they police say every time is also not always appropriate or lawfull! I say know your rights know the law it's our jobs as citizens to know the law and follow it! If we continue to tell each other to listen to the man with the gun then more girls will be raped because they arent aware they dont have to stop the car untell they fell they are in a safe situation to do so! Bet you thought you imediatly had to stop the car! Like I said the police arent the law they just inforce it and they make mistakes ALL THE TIME!

So all you hollier then most can take a step back. You know JACK. And you never will.

Here you have releases of a couple different stories, none of which is the truth yet. Wait for a couples days and police will have one made up for you all..

What does this women who called police have to say?

That's going to be the closest's you will get to the truth...

Amazing
If a cop tells you to do something, FOLLOW their orders. I guess this means even if THEIR orders are ILLEGAL. And I love the training they get now where the only words they seem to know are SHUT UP.

Carrying Firearms is a crime punishable by Death?
Apparently in Lake Stevens and Eastern Everett, carrying a firearm is a capital crime punishable by immediate death without trial by jury.

True, most of us were not present (including myself). However, if Law Enforcement wants to avoid the possibility of the appearance of excessive force, they need to publish the details of these executions in the inital reporting. For example, nowhere does the article say that these weapons were being pointed anywhere or even if they were loaded. Simply having them on your person is apparently enough to warrant immediate execution. I guess that is one way to get around the 2nd Amendment ... instead of fighting the NRA and other gun groups just kill 'em off.

And Law Enforcement wonders why most of the public does not support them.

Both are weapons
Whether it is 2 handguns or a hammer they both are weapons and can cause serious bodily harm. No amount of "arm chair quarterbacking" and second guessing what should have happened will make any difference. I personally would not want to be in the shoes of any police officer responding to a domestic violence call, especially since this one was reported as "with a weapon". My thoughts go out to the officer that had to go through this incident. No matter what remember there are some of us in the public that still appreciate what those in the law enforcement profession do for us every day.

Often in a story like this, it is the estranged wife who ends up dead. I believe only about a month ago we heard this story in Lake Stevens - man kills estranged wife and self. Since the woman called 911, this was not a friendly situation and she was feeling threatened by his behavior. I believe he probably behaved in a manner that contributed to his being shot. I don't mean he deserved to die, what I mean is, he probably didn't say something like "gee I'm sorry officers, I just wanted to talk to her and didn't know I was scaring her, I will leave now." It is unfortunate that the man is dead; we have had too many violent deaths in the county this year, but better that it was him rather than the woman or police officer who is dead as a result of his bad behavior.

Cops are murderers.
The initial report was a hammer-wielding man was killed by a Lake Stevens cop.

Then the Lake Stevens Police department with the help of the Snohomish County Sheriff's department cordoned off the entire area. Even though they knew it was only one guy.

Why was a security area established? Some might think to give them time to make up a cover story for another murder.

There are a lot of questions to be answered for all the police killings of civilians in this County, and unfortunately the only one that knows the whole story is killed EVERY time.

In the Iraq war, we have a soldier killed for every 8 wounded. In Snohomish County, there are no wounded in police shootings, only deaths. THAT IN AND OF ITSELF IS A RED FLAG!!!

Note: The Conspiracy Theorist Support Group Meeting will be held at the usual time and place this week. As always, members are asked to follow the normal pre-meeting protocols: take your meds; talk to your therapist; and take a deep breath prior to beginning your rant.

Agenda for this week's meeting: Debunking the Lake Stevens Police shooting- snatching delusion from the jaws of plausibility.

Major discussion points will include explaining away the following:
1. Police responded to the location because someone who felt threatened called 911 for help.
2. The 911 caller felt threatened because her estranged husband showed up to her house after dark, and was attempting to force entry into the residence.
3. Police made a risk-benefit decision and entered the residence to intercede on the behalf of the 911 caller.

Possible alternatives to be explored include:
A. The husband had a reasonable expectation of privacy when he went to the residence of the estranged wife; he was carrying weapons to protect his right to force entry into his estranged wife's home.
B. The Lake Stevens Police should not have expected a higher chance of violence during a domestic dispute involving breaking and entering; those FBI/Justice Deptartment statistics are phony.
C. The 911 caller almost certainly didn't answer in the affirmative when the dispatcher questioned her concerning her husband's posession of firearms. She probably didn't tell the dispatcher that her husband was a military veteran who owned guns.
D. The best kept secret of the local law enforcement departments is the peace of mind you obtain, almost Zen-like, when you take the life of another human being. Plus, I heard that they win a free trip to Disney World when they take someone out.

Remember: take your meds; talk to your therapist; take a deep breath; and attend your next local Conspiracy Theorist Meeting.

You're sooo right Kelly. Much better to not cordone off the area so people can just trample through the scene. Chaos is so much better than an organized investigation. Thanks for the well rounded insight into police protocol. Glad to see another open-minded citizen.

DiGGer,

While I'm just guessing, I seriously doubt that anyone in law enforcement had their feelings hurt that you wouldn't call upon them. But you sure told them.

ANOTHER cold blooded murder of a citizen!
Put another notch in the pistol grips of the Good Ole Boys Club that law enforcement has here in Sno County. Thats right there is a Good Ole Boys Club and they support using deadly force at the slightest percieved provocation... If the city doesnt settle the Niles Masservey case out of court Paul Luvera will blow the lid off the entire thing...

This cop here is 23 year old, still a kid for crying out loud! After more than likely being influenced by the Good Ole Boys Club and god only knows what else... I cant imagine looking at some 23 year old kid that I bet you spends allot of time playing video games pointing a gun at me at the scene of a heated family argument, that just dont seem right...

Well I guess Sno County Law Enforcement can add ANOTHER notch to their pistol grips... What is this now 8 citizens shot and killed since last November? One a month??? Great job...

I am to the point now that the police are the LAST people I would want to call in ANY situation...

Mr. Ashforth:

With logic like yours, it's utterly amazing you can figure out how to get yourself dressed each day. Have you always been prone to making quantum leaps of unfounded assumption, or is this a recent affliction?

Even if it was a hammer, in answer to your question, Brian, we sure as heck aren't going to listen to an idiot like you. Do you have any other stupid questions you want to ask the rest of us? No, I didn't think so!

What?
Brian Caldwell, you are so ill informed its almost painful to read your comments on here. You rant on about this and that but your opinions don't even make sense. You are now claiming that the Everett Herald made up the story about the suspect having two guns? Are you serious or do you just have such a boring and pathetic life that you sit on here all day trying to pick apart each story? Why don't you run for Mayor Brian? Maybe get a job in law enforcement? You seem to think everyone mentioned in every article is an idiot and you know how to do there job better than them so give it a shot. Come on Caldwell we're waiting??? Quit being an arm chair quarter back.

Original report differs
The report I heard on KIRO-TV (I think?) this morning said the man was wielding a hammer only. He was carrying a hammer and swung it at a policeman. But trained officers just KNOW how dangerous someone can be. That's why I keep my toenail clippers locked up until I absolutely need them, and don't bring them out around children.
The "two gun" story is a brand new fiction just invented because the "hammer" story didn't fly earlier. Are you going to believe me or your lying eyes and ears?
