Around the County

Edmonds: Road work delayed two weeks

A late delivery of blocks for a retaining wall means 72nd Avenue W. will remain closed until Nov. 13 and a detour will continue.

Workers have been realigning the first 75 feet of 72nd Avenue W. so it connects more directly with Olympic View Drive, said construction manager Phillip Riggins.

As part of the realignment, workers are building a retaining wall along 72nd Avenue W. to hold dirt in place for a new road.

The work is part of a much larger set of road improvements that has added sidewalks, street lights and wider lanes along Olympic View Drive, a major thoroughfare connecting Edmonds to Lynnwood west of Highway 99.

Work on that project should be complete ahead of schedule in mid-November, Riggins said.

A detour will restrict vehicles to a lane along 72nd Avenue W. Drivers can use 180th Street SW as an alternative to Olympic View Drive during construction.

Finance director picked

Edmonds’ interim finance director will keep the permanent job.

Last week, the City Council confirmed Lorenzo Hines as the city’s finance director. He had served as interim finance director since August.

Hines replaced Kathleen Junglov, who left in July.

Hines has worked in public finance since 1987, including a stint with the Office of the Inspector General for Amtrak. He also has worked for the state of California and the Seattle Symphony and was chief financial officer for the Seattle-King County Department of Public Health from 2006 to 2008.

Lake Stevens: City gets clean state audit

The city of Lake Stevens has received a clean report from the state Auditor’s Office for 2007 and 2008.

The audit is the 13th consecutive for Lake Stevens with no findings of wrongdoing in finances, record keeping or other procedures, city administrator Jan Berg said. During the period of the latest audit, the city doubled in size through annexation.

The state Auditor’s Office examines the financial statements of local jurisdictions to ensure they fairly present revenue and expenditures and evaluate the accountability and safeguarding of public assets. The auditor also reviews cities’ policies and procedures to ensure they comply with state and federal regulations.

Island County: Help lodging-tax board

Island County Board of Commissioners seeks applicants to fill a vacancy on the county’s Lodging Tax Advisory Committee.

The applicant should be able to represent the businesses subject to the tax.

Application deadline is Nov. 30.
