Student choir joins Greta Matassa on NPAC stage Nov. 7

The Earshot Jazz Festival comes to Bothell on Saturday, Nov. 7 when Greta Matassa takes the stage at Northshore Performing Arts Center.

Multi-award-winning vocalist Matassa performs with her trio and with the Bothell High School Jazz Choir as part of the Earshot Jazz Festival.

Frequently heralded as the best jazz vocalist in the Northwest, Matassa has enjoyed jazz in her life since childhood. She was naturally drawn to Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, and Frank Sinatra. She learned by singing along, then launched a self-made music career here in the Northwest.

Eventually her jazz talents brought her to work regularly with musicians such as Randy Halberstadt, Mark Ivester, and Susan Pascal. She appears regularly at Tula's downtown and often at Bake's Place in Issaquah and has toured internationally.

Matassa has released several CDs with Seattle's Origin Records, and her new CD on Resonance Records, “I Wanna Be Loved,” her first with string orchestrations, features some notable musicians from Los Angeles, including pianist and arranger, Tamir Hendelman.

Matassa will conduct a master class with the high school jazz choir members prior to the concert. The public is invited to observe this class at NPAC from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, with purchase of a ticket to the evening concert. The master class is offered by Northshore Performing Arts Center Foundation as part of its outreach program.
