Arlington High School in lock down

ARLINGTON — Arlington High School was locked down as a precaution this morning while police investigated a report of shots fired near the school.

Police found someone taking target practice in an area outside of the city limits but near the school, city spokeswoman Kristin Banfield said.

Target shooting in the county is legal, she said.

“It happens this time of year because hunters are practicing before they go out,” Banfield said. “It’s a good thing that someone called 911 just as a precaution.”

School district spokeswoman Misti Gilman said all staff and students are safe. An automated call was sent to all parents, she said.

The school was expected to be taken off lockdown during the noon hour.
