Daughtry, Tageant, Holder lead in Lake Stevens council races
By Bill Sheets Herald Writer
LAKE STEVENS — Kim Daughtry and Marcus Tageant appear on their way to becoming the two new faces on the Lake Stevens City Council.
The two were leading opponents Michiko McBride and Will Brandt, respectively, in early returns Tuesday.
Daughtry led McBride 1,039 to 795, roughly 56 percent to 43 percent. Tageant led Brandt 998 to 828, 54 percent to 45 percent.
The four candidates were running for two seats left open by Councilwoman Heather Coleman and Councilman Tom Hartwell, who chose not to run for re-election.
Councilwoman Kathy Holder looked headed to her first four-year term after she was appointed to the council in 2007 and ran that year to finish out the remainder of that term. She led challenger Tony Charity 1,222 to 614 in early returns, 66 to 33 percent.
Tageant, 37, a real-estate broker and vice president of the Greater Lake Stevens Chamber of Commerce, said he could use his business background to help build the city’s economic base.
Tageant said the city needs to set aside more commercial space and make progress on downtown redevelopment.
Daughtry, 55, who works as a remodeler, said his experience as a former strategic planner and facilitator for the Navy would advantageous to the city.
Daughtry said his priorities are improving the city’s infrastructure, such as building more sidewalks, and economic development. He’d like to see a public planning effort to address the city’s economy.
Holder, 41, is a former parks board member who works as a teaching assistant for the Lake Stevens School District. She stressed continuing progress on sidewalks and road improvements, along with economic development.
Councilman Neal Dooley ran unopposed.
