NBA ROUNDUP: Crawford, Johnson lead Hawks over Sacramento
Associated Press
SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Joe Johnson and Jamal Crawford had 26 points each to help the Atlanta Hawks beat the Sacramento Kings 113-105 on Wednesday night.
Marvin Williams and Mike Bibby each had 13 points for the Hawks (4-1).
Kevin Martin, who was playing with bruised right wrist, had 29 points and 11 rebounds and Jason Thompson added 22 points and 12 rebounds for the Kings (1-3).
Martin had 25 points going into the fourth quarter, but the Kings, who were ahead by four, allowed the Hawks to surge back to a 93-92 lead after Bibby made a 3-pointer with less than 10 minutes to play.
Johnson’s jumper with 3:20 left extended the lead to seven.
Martin finally scored his first basket of the fourth on Sacramento’s next possession, but it was too late. Crawford answered with a 3-pointer that put the game away.
Snohomish native and former University of Washington star Jon Brockman took one shot and did not score in his 1:47 playing time.
Magic 122, Suns 100 ORLANDO, Fla. — Ryan Anderson had 20 and 10 rebounds, Dwight Howard scored 25 and the short-handed Orlando Magic defeated the previously unbeaten Phoenix Suns. Playing without injured Vince Carter and suspended Rashard Lewis, the Magic built a 23-point lead in the third quarter to pull away from the Suns.
Nuggets 122, Nets 94 EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — Chauncey Billups and Carmelo Anthony woke up the unbeaten Nuggets in a 44-point third quarter and Denver continued its best start since 1985-86 with a victory over the winless Nets.
Celtics 92, T-wolves 90 MINNEAPOLIS — Kevin Garnett had 12 points and 11 rebounds in his third game back in Minnesota since he was traded in 2007, helping the Celtics remain undefeated with a victory over the Timberwolves.
Heat 93, Wizards 89 WASHINGTON — Dwyane Wade scored 40 points, including a go-ahead jumper with 25 seconds left, to lead the Heat in a victory over the Wizards.
Pacers 101, Knicks 89 NEW YORK — T.J. Ford scored eight of his 16 points in the final 3:12, and the Indiana Pacers won for the first time this season, holding the Knicks without a field goal for the final 9-plus minutes. Dahntay Jones had 19 points and 12 rebounds for the Pacers (1-3), who came in as one of the NBA’s three winless teams and had lost all three games by double digits.
Raptors 110, Pistons 99 TORONTO — Andrea Bargnani had 22 points and 12 rebounds for his first double-double of the season, Chris Bosh scored 25 points and the Raptors beat the Pistons. Hedo Turkoglu added 16 points and Antoine Wright had 12 for the Raptors, who had lost seven of their previous eight games against the Pistons. Toronto became the first team this season to score more than 100 points against Detroit, which came in second behind Boston in points allowed at 85.3. Ben Gordon had a season-high 30 points, former Raptors player Charlie Villanueva and Will Bynum each scored 16 for the Pistons, who have lost three of four. Rodney Stuckey added 13 points and 10 rebounds.
Lakers 103, Rockets 102 (OT) HOUSTON — Kobe Bryant scored 41 points, Andrew Bynum added 17 points and 17 rebounds and the Lakers won in overtime for the second straight game, beating the Rockets. Carl Landry scored 20 points to lead six players in double figures for Houston.
