Former Tip Shaun Heshka headed to the NHL

Posted at 12:21 pm by Nick Patterson

The next Everett Silvertips alumni is set to join the ranks of the NHL as defeseman Shaun Heshka was called up by the Phoenix Coyotes today.

Now let's see if I get this right. Heshka, when he gets into a game, will become the fifth (?) former Silvertip to crack the NHL, joining Peter Mueller, Michael Wall, Ivan Baranka and Riley Armstrong. Only Mueller has managed to hold down a regular place so far.

Please correct me if I'm forgetting someone.

Heshka
Great to see another Tip "Go Up". Shaun's performance in his first ever NHL game was a pretty decent showing, especially since he was called up to fill Jovanovsky's spot with Jovo being injured. "Hesher" finished the night with 2:59 on the PK (how many rookies get that much PK in their debut), 15:33 total time on the ice, a -1 (great for an NHL debut) and only 2 minutes in the box for Delay of the Game- puck over the glass (probably the most ridiculous penalty that can be assesed). Nice Job.
Also, you didn't catch that this was the first time two former Tips played on the same NHL team (as opposed to Riley playing against Peter.
As for Ivan Baranka, I don't think Ivan played any higher than the Hartford Wolfpack of the AHL. Don't think he made it to the Rangers, but I could be wrong.

Mueller
Interestingly enough....Mueller is the only one of the five who was NOT with the Tips in that Inagural 2003 season. Not bad that four players from that band of "castoffs" have made it to the NHL level...no matter for how long.
