From not-so-savvy terrorists to port-a-potty bingo, comedian Paul Myrehaug causes big-belly laughs to happen no matter the topic.

Myrehaug of Vancouver, B.C., brings his dead-pan delivery and subtle comic style to Everett to host the 30th annual of the Seattle International Stand Up Comedy Competition on Saturday.

The event returns to Everett with 16 of this year’s 32 contestants — all professional comedians — competing for more than $15,000.

Along with Myrehaugh, comics will travel from Toronto, Tampa, Fla., Birmingham, Ala., Portland, Ore., New York and Los Angeles, along with lots of comic talent from the Northwest.

Myrehaug was the $25,000 winner of “Canada’s Funniest Comedian” and runner-up in the 2006 Seattle International Comedy Competition.

The competition is a contest combined with a touring festival of 23 shows over 26 days in 19 venues in Western Washington.

This year’s showing of talent is being billed as the strongest field of comics overall of any in recent memory.

Organizers said they considered hundreds of applicants and turned down many who in “ordinary” years would have been invited.

The competition’s 2007 winner, Marcus, went on to be the runner-up on NBC’s “Last Comic Standing.”
