So, he asked a group of high school students what’s hot these days when it comes to musicals? The 100 percent response was “High School Musical.” For this season’s pops concert, the Everett Symphony Orchestra will present a medley of songs from that musical, ending with the popular “We’re All in This Together.” “I decided that as a tribute to what’s hot now, we’re going to start out with ‘High School Musical’ and we’ll get the musicians to scream out at the appropriate times,” Cobbs said, laughing. This year’s pops concert is dubbed “‘High School Musical’ Meets the Broadway Classics.” The symphony hasn’t done a Broadway-inspired pops concert in about five years. “The Broadway shows are the most popular of the Everett Symphony audience,” Cobbs said. “And we can’t do one every year so doing it now, that’s very special.” Audiences get another special treat: Vocalist Gail Neil, a local perennial favorite, will be the featured singer. “Gail has been singing with us a long time, and has quite the following. And she always delights,” Cobbs said. The vibrant mezzo soprano will sing such favorites as “Hello, Young Lovers,” “Getting to Know You,” “My Favorite Things,” “Memories,” “Make Believe” and the signature song Neil sings with the Everett Symphony, “Send in The Clowns,” from “A Little Night Music.” The orchestra will also play selections from “South Pacific,” “Oklahoma” and “Guys and Dolls.” ‘High School Musical’ Meets Broadway Classics’ 8 tonight at New Life Center, 6830 Highland Drive, Everett.
