Front Porch: Military will get exercised today

Don't be alarmed if you see military personnel zooming around Port Gardner in boats mounted with guns.

A reserve unit plans an exercise beginning this morning at Naval Station Everett that involves setting up a campsite with tents and antenna fields. The boat guns won't be loaded and sailors will load their M16s with blanks. The exercise is set to end Sunday.

Lunch is served today in Everett: Trinity Lutheran Church's annual food and craft festival is planned for 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. today and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at 2324 Lombard Ave., Everett.

Lunch is served from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. today and dinner from 4 to 8 tonight. There will be a Victorian dollhouse raffle, too.

Lions Club hosts crab feed: The Lake Stevens Lions Club hosts its annual crab feed from 3 to 7 p.m. Saturday at North Lake Middle School, 2202 123rd Ave. NE, Lake Stevens. The all-you-can-eat event costs $20.

Samoa benefit Saturday in Everett: A benefit lunch for survivors of the Sept. 29 Pacific Ocean tsunami and earthquake is planned from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at A Ray of Hope Mission, in the alleyway behind 2914 Hewitt Ave., Everett. It costs $10 and is hosted by the Rev. Kila Leapaga Sr.

Teen Zone opens in Mill Creek: A hangout for local teens officially opens at 7 tonight at the Mill Creek Library, 15429 Bothell-Everett Highway. The Teen Zone was funded by a grant from the Fred Meyer Foundation.
