Indians hires ex-Mariner Belcher as pitching coach
CLEVELAND Former Cleveland Indians pitcher Tim Belcher is the teams new pitching coach, the first member of manager Manny Actas staff.
Belcher has spent the past eight years as a special assistant to baseball operations in the Indians organization. He was responsible for evaluating players in Clevelands system and scouted other teams.
The 48-year-old went 146-140 with a 4.16 ERA in a 14-year career. Belcher pitched for seven major league teams, including the Seattle Mariners
Acta is expected to fill out the remainder of coaching staff over the next few days. He was hired as Clevelands manager on Oct. 25. Former pitching coach Carl Willis was fired along with manager Eric Wedge. Willis spent seven seasons with the Indians.
