MIDEAST WARS

More thought must be given

The wars in Iraq and Afghanistan are something that should be given more thought than most politicians do, and tying decisions to the political situation in those countries is also wise.

Vietnam was a war where we ignored the political upheaval and assassinations. We just plowed deeper into the mud and didn’t seem to even care what the reality was and how best to move forward in that reality. At the end of the Vietnam war our government was drafting anyone and everyone to throw at the Viet Cong and many of those kids didn’t last six months before being killed or seriously injured. Look at the casualty numbers and you will see that they skyrocketed in 1969 and 1970. Anyone who thinks that is an OK situation has sold their soul to the Pentagon.

We don’t have to stay in Afghanistan to prevent another 9/11. No one seems to remember that George Bush spent the whole summer after he was elected on vacation. We just have to prevent another George Bush from taking the White House to prevent another 9/11.
