School Winners
Everett girl wins backpack in drawing
Becky Azure, a 9-year-old at Penny Creek Elementary School in Everett, recenlty won a Forest Service backpack stuffed with maps, hiking guides and safety items.
Becky entered an essay about how she would use the prize while hiking, swimming, biking and exploring with her family into the Get Movin summer drawing.
The Get Movin program encourages families in Snohomish County to adopt active lifestyles, signing up participants who commit to 30 minutes of outdoor activities a day, five days a week, throughout the summer.
Participants earn rewards for meeting weekly goals: passes for free swimming, rock climbing and ice skating. More than 3,000 people signed up this year.
Becky and her family hardly need the encouragement.
Avid hikers, they visited the Big Four Ice Caves, hiked to Lake 22 and climbed Mount Pilchuck last summer.
I can hardly wait to go hiking again, this is so exciting, Becky said.
Her next destination is the Iron Goat Trail.
