Camano Island burglaries spike: Is Colton back?

Police won’t say if teen fugitive Colton Harris-Moore is a suspect in the break-ins

CAMANO ISLAND — A recent rash of burglaries on Camano Island have some wondering if the notorious teenage fugitive Colton Harris-Moore has returned home.

There have been about seven burglary investigations in the past two weeks, Island County Undersheriff Kelly Mauck said Monday.

“Anytime there’s a burglary on Camano Island, it could be Colton Harris-Moore,” Mauck said.

Still, he said detectives are not releasing specific information about the investigations or any details that may link the crimes to the 18-year-old serial burglar.

Harris-Moore is suspected in dozens of burglaries and thefts around the Pacific Northwest.

The teenager was arrested on Camano Island in February 2007, convicted and sentenced to juvenile rehabilitation. In April 2008, he slipped out of a halfway house in Renton and has been on the lam since.

Police believe he’s stolen three small airplanes, crash-landing in each of them and living to run away. He’s also suspected of stealing luxury cars and boats and crossing the border into Canada.

Suspicions swirled that Harris-Moore may have fired a weapon at a Snohomish County sheriff’s deputy near Granite Falls days after a stolen plane was found crash-landed in the woods just outside of town.

Harris-Moore grew up with his mother in a mobile home on a wooded lot on south Camano Island. He’s been in trouble with the law on and off since he was 12 years old.

Anyone with information about where Harris-Moore may be is asked to call 911.

REWARD
If someone would offer a reward for info in this case I'm sure one of his trash friends would instantly roll over on him. It wouldn't take much, the one day budget of what they are spending looking for him would probably do it.
