Everett: Elementary to honor veterans Madison Elementary School, 616 Pecks Drive, will offer a Veterans Day assembly at 9:30 this morning. Students invited veterans to attend and be honored at the school. School sets ‘You Can’t Take it With You’ The Cascade High School Drama Department will present the play “You Can’t Take it With You.” Performances are 7:30 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and Nov. 20 and 21 in the school’s Bear Space Theater, 801 E. Lake Stevens: Give a coat, help a family The Lake Stevens Family Center is accepting donations of new or gently used coats, jackets and blankets, which will be available to families in need through January. Monroe: Settlement request of $192,950 Meredith Mechling has requested a $192,950 settlement in her public-records case against the city. The figure accounts for $109,000 in legal fees and $83,950 in penalties for public-records violations, according to William Crittenden, Mechling’s attorney. Monroe’s legal counsel, lawyers with Ogden Murphy Wallace, reached out to Crittenden last week, asking for a settlement figure to discuss with the City Council. The city could accept the settlement, let a judge determine an amount or attempt to appeal the case. The settlement is related to an Oct. 26 decision by the state Court of Appeals, which supported Mechling’s long-running attempt to secure e-mails sent in 2005 among City Council members. Snohomish: Planning commission seat open Tom Hamilton’s win in the Nov. 3 City Council race has created an opening on the planning commission. The city is calling for applications to fill Hamilton’s vacated spot. The six-year term finds commissioners considering land use, regional and comprehensive plan issues, and making recommendations to the City Council.
