Man dies in apparent suicide on Edmonds beach

EDMONDS — Police believe a man who died Tuesday morning on the Edmonds waterfront likely shot himself.

Officers and medics were summoned to Brackett’s Landing on Main Street about 10:30 a.m. after someone reported hearing a gunshot, Edmonds police Sgt. Mike Blackburn said. They found a 66-year-old man with a wound to his head. He died at the scene.

Witnesses told police the man had been sitting on a log at the beach for about three hours before the gunfire. Police found evidence that he took his own life. Nobody else was hurt and no one was nearby.

Sad
Terribly sad to think of this man sitting on the beach for three hours while contemplating suicide. It makes me feel so bad for him. We need to make sure we stay in contact with our elderly family members. I know I am guilty of not making more time for them. This serves as a sad reminder that growing old is sad and depressing for many people and we need to be present for them.
