Seems Like Yesterday

50 YEARS AGO (1959)

On the front page was a color drawing of the Everett Golf and Country Club’s proposed new clubhouse with pool. President Burke Barker announced that club members recently approved plans for the new facility.

Seventeen members of Everett High School’s football team would play their final game Friday against Bellingham. They were Don Dunney, Paul Harbeck, Jim Lambright, Dale Lemaster, John Sievers, George Rygg, Ron Gilbert, Tom Deebach, Brian Ellis, Al Smith, Steve Simmons, Gil Davis, Bill Schmidt, George Coleman, Lionel Hobson, Chuck Berry and Jack Hilton.

25 YEARS AGO (1984)

Russell Shaver, 91, of Everett, recalled his stint in World War I where he received a Silver Star and Purple Heart. His war stories lived through his daughter Grace Clemans, who had written them down. Shaver considered his service a success: He never got thrown in the guard house.

Ed and Betty Morrow hosted a reception at their historic Colby Avenue home for Everett Symphony Orchestra players, board members and boosters following the community orchestra’s opening night concert.
