Smokey Point to celebrate end of roadwork

State and city officials plan to gather in Smokey Point on Friday to celebrate the completion of the work at the I-5 and Highway 531 interchange as well as to dedicate the Oliver “Punks” Smith Overpass.

The brief event is scheduled to start at 11 a.m., the Medallion Hotel, 16710 Smokey Point Blvd.

The interchange project opened a new southbound freeway onramp and improved the existing ramps. Smith, a longtime Arlington city councilman and community volunteer, helped secure the funding for the wider overpass.

End of the roadwork?
Whaddya talking about? As of this morning, there was plenty of work remaining. This project (like many others) is so messed up, its a joke. Who is in charge at the WSDOT? Who draws up the plans and who approved them? There is one road leading into Costco, Target, etc.. one road! Gimme a break. The traffic is no better getting across the overpass, actually, i think it is worse. Nobody knows what lane to be in!

Wait!
Maybe there should be a roundabout there instead.

Ya, like roundabouts are gonna make traffic smoother thru any area. I can't wait until the roundabout at 172nd/hwy 9 is finished, boy that will sure help traffic there! plus it costs over 1 million? for a roundabout? Wow! there is something very wrong with the WSDOT. They must be close with Obama, cause they are both idiots.

Thank you Oliver “Punks” Smith for helping secure the funding for the wider overpass, unfortunately, WSDOT "fubared" it.
