Quinn to starts at QB for Browns

BEREA, Ohio — Brady Quinn is getting his second chance at starting.

Quinn, benched just 10 quarters into the season for Derek Anderson, will start Monday night’s game against the Baltimore Ravens. He was pulled at halftime of the Browns’ 34-3 loss to Baltimore on Sept. 27, and will make his return against one of the NFL’s toughest defenses.

“I’m excited to play,” Quinn said. “I’m excited to be a part of Monday night. Every team in the NFL is tough, them especially. We’ve got our hands full right now.”

Browns coach Eric Mangini has decided to go back to Quinn after Anderson went 1-4 as a starter and posted the NFL’s lowest quarterback rating (36.2). Mangini said he would like to stick with Quinn for the remainder of the season.

Quinn went 6 of 8 for 34 yards with one interception before being pulled in Week 3 for Anderson, who completed only 43 percent of his passes, threw two TDs and nine interceptions in the past five games.

Mangini has been impressed with Quinn’s work ethic since being demoted.

“He’s had good weeks of practice,” Mangini said. “He’s worked hard since the first transition was made. I look forward to him taking advantage of this opportunity and helping us improve.”

Quinn, who is 1-5 in six career starts, will try to kickstart an offense that has produced just five touchdowns — two less than New Orleans’ defense — and is ranked 30th in scoring, 31st in total yards and 32nd in passing yards.

Quinn said he’s not looking at the opportunity to start again as a second chance.

“I think it’s hard to view it like that,” he said. “The biggest thing right now is to get some things going on offense and improve some things for us.”

Anderson, a Pro Bowler in 2007, declined an interview request during locker room availability.
