NBA roundup

Trail Blazers 93, Grizzlies 79

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Brandon Roy scored 20 points and LaMarcus Aldridge added 16 points and 12 rebounds as Portland beat Memphis, who played without Allen Iverson and lost rookie center Hasheem Thabeet to a broken jaw.

Casey Blake and Greg Oden had 14 points each for Portland, all of Oden's coming in the second half. Marc Gasol led Memphis with 20 points while O.J. Mayo scored 17.

The Grizzlies, who dropped their sixth straight, still were without guard Allen Iverson, who left the team (with owner Michael Heisley's blessing) last weekend for personal reasons after playing three games on the West Coast.

Thabeet, the No. 2 overall pick in last year's draft, suffered a fractured jaw late in the first quarter when he collided with teammate Zach Randolph's head.

Portland broke open the game with a 14-1 run in the third period erasing a Memphis lead.

Magic 93, Bobcats 81

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Dwight Howard had 15 points and 10 rebounds and Vince Carter scored 15 in his return from a sprained ankle to lead Orlando over Charlotte.

Nuggets 90, Bulls 89

CHICAGO — Chauncey Billups hit the go-ahead free throw with six-tenths of a second to play to lift Denver over Chicago after a potential winning jumper by Brad Miller was overturned following a replay review.

Heat 90, Wizards 76

MIAMI — Dwyane Wade scored 41 points and Miami remained in first place in the Southeast Division by beating Washington.

Mavericks 121, Rockets 103

DALLAS — Jason Terry scored 24 points, Erick Dampier had 14 points and 20 rebounds for Dallas, which overcame an early 17-point deficit to beat Houston.

Kings 101, Thunder 98

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Jason Thompson had 21 points and 14 rebounds to help Sacramento to its first three-game winning streak in over a year. The Kings (4-4) also reached the .500 mark for the first time since Dec. 4, 2006. Sacramento's Jon Brockman, a Snohomish native, did not play.

Of note

Expensive outburst

ORLANDO, Fla. — Orlando Magic center Dwight Howard has been fined $15,000 by the NBA for publicly criticizing officials on his blog, the league announced Tuesday. The comments were posted on Howard's blog after the Magic's loss to Detroit last week. Howard fouled out in the game after playing a little more than 16 minutes.

He wrote on his blog: “How can that be, ya'll? It was crazy. They called me for a charge on a flop, a push off when the defender was on me and two fouls on blocked shots.”

Howard also wrote that he hadn't played “that little in a game since I was 10 years old in pee-wee ball.” He said, “What really bothers me is they are letting guys hammer me at one end of the floor, yet I'm being called for everything.”
