Opportunities

Give: Everett bank needs help now

Volunteers of America’s Everett Food Bank needs food donations to stock shelves for the holidays.

More than 5,000 people use the food bank each month, and of those half are children and 20 percent are seniors.

Financial donations are down and the demand is up, said Christin Froderberg, director of food bank services at Volunteers of America.

For each dollar donated, Volunteers of America can purchase $6 in food.

Donate online at www.voaww.org or send a check to Volunteers of America P.O. Box 839, Everett, WA 98206.

Food can be donated from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday at 1230 Broadway.

More info: 425-259-3191.

Share: Writers and poets wanted

Writers and poets can share their writing and poetry from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Nov. 24 at Pointe of Grace in Mukilteo.

The event is presented by the Mukilteo Arts Guild, a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting the arts in the greater Puget Sound area.

Pointe of Grace is located at 5425 Harbour Pointe Blvd., in Mukilteo.

More info: www. mukilteoartsguild.org.

Learn: Job seekers use the Internet

Classes for job seekers and those wishing to make a career change will be offered free of charge at the Mountlake Terrace Library.

A class to help people find information to help make a career change is scheduled at 8:15 a.m. on Nov. 24.

A Job Hunting Online class will teach people how to look for jobs online and how to use electronic resources to help with a job search at 8:15 a.m. on Dec. 29.

Class space is limited and registering early is suggested.

The Mountlake Terrace Library is located at 23300 58th Ave. W. in Mountlake Terrace.

More info: 425-776-8722.

Donate: Stores host food drive

A food drive to help the hungry in Snohomish County is underway through Wednesday at Haggen Food and Pharmacy and TOP Food and Drug stores.

Donors can purchase pre-stuffed bags of groceries that include rice, pasta and soup for $5 at Haggen and TOP Food stores in Arlington, Edmonds, Everett, Lake Stevens, Marysville, Snohomish, Stanwood.

All of the donated food will be distributed by local food banks.

More info: www. Top-Foods.com and www.Haggen.com.

Volunteer: Help others with taxes

More than 80 volunteers are needed to prepare tax returns throughout Snohomish County at United Way’s free income tax preparation sites.

United Way of Snohomish County will operate the Free Income Tax Preparation Centers at four sites from Jan. 21 to April 15. The program is designed to help low and middle-income families prepare their income tax forms.

All volunteers will receive free tax preparation training and be certified by the IRS. The tax sites will be located in Everett, Lynnwood and Monroe.

Volunteers who don’t wish to prepare taxes are also needed to serve as greeters and translators.

More info: 425-374-5552 or go to www.uwsc.org.

VOA Everett Foodbank
I was jut wondering...there was an article about a nine year old girl who requested food donations instead of birthday gifts and received $20,000, from her grandparents, to donate specifically to the Everett VOA Foodbank. So, if the VOA foodbank is having an emergency food drive because the cupboards are bare, where did the nine year olds donations go?
