Next up: three straight on the road. Uh-oh. The Seahawks travel to Arizona carting with them physical baggage, as well and the baggage of an 0-3 road record this season. In the five seasons before this, the Seahawks are 18-22 on the road—not too shabby—but it’s when you start looking at who Seattle has beaten on the road lately that it’s easy to conclude that the Seahawks could be in trouble. Give them a patsy—looking at you St. Louis—and sure, the Seahawks might be OK. But against playoff contenders? That’s another story. Seattle’s last road win against a team that went on to make the playoffs was in 2004 when they won at Minnesota, a team that went on to sneak into the postseason as an 8-8 wild card team. The last road victory against a team that finished with a winning record? That would be a 2007 win over Denver, which went on to finish 9-7. That doesn’t bode well for the Seahawks, who face 5-3 Arizona this week and the Minnesota Vikings, currently 7-1, the following week. In the previous five seasons, the Seahawks' 18 road wins are against teams that have a combined record of 97-191, good for a .337 winning percentage. So what does a coach say to a fan base that is writing off the next two games as losses? “I wasn’t aware of that fact because I wasn’t here for a few of those years, but that’s pretty compelling,” Mora said when told that it has been since 2004 since his team beat a playoff team away from Seattle. “I would say, know that we’re working as hard as we can and doing all we can every single day to turn that around. These next two weeks we’re going to have two chances to do that, to play very good teams on the road. And we’re taking it serious and we’re focused and we’re going to do our darnedest to get one.” Every time the Seahawks' road struggles are brought up, players say they don’t worry about it and that it’s just another game, but the concern has to come up eventually that Seattle is fighting a psychological foe as well as an opposing football team when it travels. “I wouldn’t be forthcoming if I said I didn’t worry about it,” Mora said. “Yeah, I do worry about it. You always worry about your team’s psyche. But really, we’re not going to change the way we prepare because we believe that we’re doing the right things. We’re always going look for better ways and try to tweak things. Really what needs to happen is we need to go out and execute and play well and make some plays and get some breaks and find a way to get a win.” And even if players won’t admit to fearing road games, they do acknowledge that a win this weekend will help when they play two more on the road this month. “Yeah, it can help a lot,” receiver Nate Burleson said. “This could be a huge confidence booster to give us some momentum going on this road trip we’ve got ahead. It could definitely help us out. You beat a good team on the road, it’s going to do wonders for you team.” And if the Seahawks don’t win?
