3 Arlington schools honored
ARLINGTON — Kent Prairie Elementary School, Post Middle School and Stillaguamish Valley School, the school district’s home-school resource program, have been judged among the best in the state.
The Center for Educational Effectiveness and the Washington chapter of Phi Delta Kappa recently recognized the three Arlington schools as among 104 statewide to receive this year’s Great Schools award.
The center has a contract with the state Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction to provide an independent look at school performance.
Arlington School District was the only one on the west side of the state honored for work in three levels of instruction, center representative John McCullough said. Arlington also is the only Snohomish County district and the only one in the regional Educational Service District 189 with three Great Schools.
“To me that says a ton about what (Arlington) has going on within (its) schools and the hard work of its teachers,” McCullough said.
Arlington Superintendent Kris McDuffy agreed.
“We are extremely proud of the gains being made in these schools and the incredible dedication, hard work and passion of our staff, focused on success for all students,” McDuffy said. “We will continue to build on this great success.”
Post Middle School also won the award last year, McDuffy said.
Post Principal Brian Beckley said the Center for Educational Effectiveness measured the growth of individual student achievement in annual testing over a period of years.
“We’re very excited about the award,” Beckley said. “It validates all the things we’re doing at Post to help kids.”
Other schools in the county to receive the Great Schools honor included Lynnwood High School, Gateway Middle School in Everett, North Lake Middle School in Lake Stevens, Mukilteo Elementary School and Gold Bar Elementary School.
