Duo Tingstand and Rumbel to perform holiday show tonight in Snohomish

Herald staff

Though they spend lots of time touring, the Grammy Award-winning musical duo of Eric Tingstad and Nancy Rumbel make a point of bringing their acoustic style home for the holidays.

Tingstad and Rumbel have shared their enduring music with Northwest families for 25 years, illuminating the holidays with a blend of Americana fingerstyle guitar, double reeds and the ocarina emitting the nostalgic sound of penny whistles.

Joining them this season is bassist Garey Shelton.

Tingstad and Rumbel first collaborated in 1985, recording their debut holiday classic CD “The Gift.” Their holiday discography includes “Comfort and Joy,” “Star of Wonder” and “Peace on Earth.”

Their repertoire has been described as festive and reverent, solemn and lively. Tingstad and Rumbel won the best new age Grammy Award in 2003 in support of “Acoustic Garden.” Tingstad’s latest ensemble release, “Southwest,” was nominated for a Grammy in 2007.

Their 19th collaboration, “Leap of Faith,” was released in January and will be made available at each of their shows during November and December.

“Home for the Holidays” is at 8 tonight at the Tim Noah Thumbnail Theater, 1211 Fourth St., Snohomish. Tickets are $18. Call 800-838-3006 or go to www.brownpapertickets.com/event/86357.
