Marysville, Lake Stevens win youth football titles

    The Lake Stevens Hawks won the Junior Division title at the Greater Snohomish County Youth Football Championships on Nov. 7.

The Marysville Kodiaks and Lake Stevens Hawks won their respective divisions at the Greater Snohomish County Youth Football League Championships held Nov. 7 at Monroe High School.

In the Senior Division (ages 12-13), quarterback Jake Luton threw for two touchdowns and ran for a third to lead Marysville to a 28-16 victory over the Monroe White Bearcats. Luton threw a 20-yard TD pass to Reagan Gordon in the second quarter, a 30-yard scoring pass to Dakota Williams in the third quarter and ran for a touchdown in the final period.

T.J. Rosten opened the scoring for Marysville with a touchdown run in the first quarter.

Other Kodiak team members incuded Noah Hoorn, Forest Herr, Tynan Vincent, Parker House, Lazarus Scarborough, Shane Anderson, Alex Rosten, Austin Wilde, Hunter Trueax, Andrew Schafer, Landon McGarry, John Clark, Kyle Durick, Dominic Barashkoff, Michael Painter, Devan Palfrey, Cameron Kammers, Josh Pinca, D.J. Ward and Andrew Davis.

The Marysville team was coached by Don Blacker and Mike Thompson. They were assisted by Marty Martinis and Jeff Rosten.

In the Junior Division (ages 10-11), the Lake Stevens Hawks defeated the Snohomish Panthers White 33-12 in the title contest.

Lake Stevens team members included Dylan Billings, Tyler Billlings, Jason Cho, Dane Denhartog, Austin Dezeeuw, Jacob Eason, Lars Eklund, Mitch Firth, Andrew Grimes, Zach Hanson, Cameron Jellison, Brandon Kyles, Daulton McCarrel, Tylor McNeil, Colton Richards, Bronson Rowe, Corbin Schueller, Ian Schneider, Spencer Searles, Justin Siemering, Dylan Swezey, Michael Wilkins and Austin Williamson.

The team was coached by Erik Hanson, Troy Jellison, Tony Eason, Punky Searles and Mike Schueller.

Ex-Bruin Oliver honored

Former Cascade High School football standout J.P. Oliver was named the Lone Star Conference North Division Player of the Week for his performance in East Central University’s 27-26 loss to Southeastern Oklahoma on Nov. 7.

Oliver, a junior linebacker, had a team-best 13 tackles, including a sack. He also intercepted a pass. Oliver led the Tigers (0-11) this season in tackles (101) and solo tackles (56), and was second on the team in tackles for loss (7.5).

East Central University is located in Ada, Okla.

Tennis team third at nationals

A team from Mountlake Terrace placed third at the USTA Junior Team Tennis Nationals held Oct. 23-25 in Mobile, Ala. The team competed in the 14-U Intermediate Division.

Team members included Jenna Gilbert, Meera Limaye, Nishaant Limaye, Dylan Merrill, Hanna Rehnfeldt, Stefan Schoen, Emily Sokol and Aaron Vo.

The team was coached by Chris Samuel.
