CSO Chamber annual show slated Nov. 23

The Cascade Symphony and Music Director Michael Miropolsky present their annual Chamber Orchestra concert at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 23 in Edmonds, featuring Russian-American violinist Artur Girsky in a performance of Mozart’s Violin Concerto No. 5.

The concert will open with Rossini’s Overture to “La Gaza Ladra.” Also on the program is the Symphony No. 1 by Bizet. This work was begun just after his 17th birthday and completed in just one month, placing him in the company of child prodigies such as Mozart and Mendelssohn. Although Bizet is known primarily for his operas, particularly “Carmen,” his only symphony became highly successful.

Girsky began studying violin at the age of five, and received his musical training at the Moscow Conservatory and the Royal College of Music in London. He has been a member of the Seattle Symphony since 2005.

Cascade Symphony’s season will continue with “The New World” on January 25, 2010 “A Russian Evening” on March 29, 2010 and “Brahms First” on May 25, 2010. In addition, the orchestra will present a Children’s Concert on Feb. 20, 2010, and small ensemble performances on April 11 and April 16, 2010.

Season tickets and tickets for individual performances are available by calling 425-776-4938 or by visiting the website at www.cascadesymphony.org. Excerpts of the music to be performed are also available on the website.
