Group seeks counselors for Iraq, Afghanistan vets

EVERETT — Soldiers Project Northwest is looking for psychotherapists in Snohomish and Island counties who are interested in volunteering to help active duty and veteran servicemen and women who have served in the current wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The Soldiers Project offers free, confidential counseling to military personnel and their families. Volunteer therapists give an hour or more a week to the project.

An informational session about the project is set for 10 a.m. to noon Friday at First Presbyterian Church, 2936 Rockefeller Ave., Everett.

Stanwood psychiatric nurse Trisha Pearce, founder of Soldiers Project Northwest, plans to talk about the work of the project and how people can help those dealing with the effects of war.

The public is welcome to attend, Pearce said, because the informational session includes an outline of issues faced by military families.

Lisa Tice, with Washington National Guard Family Programs, intends to talk about the citizen soldiers who have returned from active duty overseas.
