Front Porch Historic train rideFour residents of Josephine Sunset home in Stanwood, ages from 91 to 94, plan to depart the Amtrak train this morning in Stanwood. The trip marks the return of train service to the city after 34 years. They are expected to begin their adventure along with Sen. Mary Margaret Haugen at the Everett Train Station at 8:30 a.m. and arrive in Stanwood at 9 a.m. Josephine residents have memories of the early years, when Stanwood was one of the few places that had a commuter train that went from the west side of town to the east side. Josephine celebrated a 101st anniversary in September. They have 160 nursing home residents, 57 assisted living residents and more than 250 children enrolled in child care. Fly flags at half staff: Gov. Christine Gregoire ordered state-agency flags flown at half staff Monday in memory of Neal Richards, a Washington State Department of Transportation employee who died Thursday after being hit by a falling tree limb while working to clear a landslide on U.S. 101 near Indian Hill east of Port Angeles. Flags should remain at half staff until the close of business Monday, or first thing Tuesday morning. Sultan changes garbage pick-up: Sultan city offices will be closed Thursday and Friday. Customers who normally have garbage pick-up Thursday should place their garbage out for pick-up Tuesday.
