Camano Island man accused of selling stolen diabetic supplies on eBay

EVERETT — A Camano Island man is being accused of stealing more than $360,000 worth of insulin and diabetic supplies from Providence Regional Medical Center Everett.

Investigators say Michael Ralph Worley, 43, was a pharmacy technician at the Everett hospital when he stole large amounts of insulin and diabetic test strips used to check insulin levels. He allegedly sold the supplies on eBay. Worley has been indicted on several federal charges.

Worley was fired from his job in November 2008 after an audit revealed large amounts of insulin being ordered for the pharmacy. Investigator determined that large quantities of insulin shipped to Providence were being sold over the Internet.

Authorities estimate that the retail value of the stolen insulin at more than $1.2 million.

Worley allegedly sold the stolen insulin and supplies to a Florida man, who also was charged in federal court. Investigators believe the Florida man sold the insulin to other small drug distributors and pharmacies. The insulin was not refrigerated during shipping or storing, which made it unsafe for use, authorities said.
