The Everett office of the state Department of Revenue will host a free workshop for new and small business owners from 1 to 4:30 p.m. Dec. 3 at the Everett Public Library, 2702 Hoyt Ave. The workshop will cover state excise taxes, reporting classifications, deductions, tax incentives, sales tax collection and record-keeping requirements. A seminar on year-end tax tips for businesses is planned for 5:30 p.m. Dec. 2 at the Mill Creek branch of North County Bank, 5006 132nd St. SE, Mill Creek. Toyer & Associates will lead the session. RSVP to Hillary Czarnecki, 425-357-6937.



The next episode of “Getting Your Dough to Rise,” KSER’s monthly personal finance show hosted by Chuck Noel, will feature Lara Littlefield, president of Northwest Development Officer’ Association, Eldon Samp, Snohomish County PUD senior energy conservation consultant, and Bill Reith, certified public accountant at Hascal Sjoholm in Everett. An open house for the city of Lynnwood’s one-stop Permit Center and the Community Development, Economic Development and Fire Prevention offices is set for 10 a.m. to noon Dec. 2. The center is located at 4114 198th St. SW, Suite 7. Lynnwood residents and developers are invited.



Snohomish County Toastmaster’s Club No. 690 has launched its 2009 membership drive. The club invites prospective members to its meetings, 5:15 to 6:30 p.m. Mondays in Conference Room 6A04, sixth floor of the Snohomish County Administration Building, 3000 Rockefeller Ave., Everett.

Tedd Riggan has been named assistant manager at Smokey Point Concrete’s Arlington plant. He will oversee dispatching and assisting in overall supervision. He has been with the company for three years after 15 years of prior experience in sales and management in the agriculture and fertilizer industry.



Good Deeds

Quality Business Systems recently donated $10,000 to the YMCA of Snohomish County’s Invest in Youth Campaign. The money was raised at the company’s annual charity golf tournament in September.



Awards

Thomson Reuters has named Providence Regional Medical Center in Everett as one of the nation’s top 100 hospitals for inpatient cardiovascular services. The study examined the performance of 971 hospitals.
