Fire displaces Arlington family

ARLINGTON — Fire destroyed a garage Sunday night, displacing an Arlington family of six just days before the Thanksgiving holiday.

The family called 911 around 9:15 p.m. after they discovered flames, Marysville Fire District spokeswoman Kristen Thorstenson said.

Crews rushed to the 1900 block of Lakewood Road and were able to keep the fire contained in the garage, she said. Teams from North County Fire & EMS and Arlington helped in the firefight.

The fire caused about $150,000 damage and appeared to start in the control panel of a washing machine, according to an investigator with the Snohomish County Fire Marshal’s office.

The family is staying with friend and neighbors, Thorstenson said. They have insurance.

No smoke detectors were found in the home, she said. The fire was discovered when the family heard popping sounds and smelled something burning.

“Remember, working smoke alarms save lives,” she said. “Have them in every sleeping area and one on every floor of your home.”
