Goodwill store coming to Monroe

22,000-square-foot retail center will open by spring in the same area where a Seattle developer wants to build a big-box store.

MONROE — It’s not your traditional big-box store, but it’s certainly big.

Seattle Goodwill aims to open a 22,000-square-foot store in Monroe by spring.

The retail center will be the thrift giant’s first location in Snohomish County that isn’t just off the I-5 corridor.

While Goodwill operates retail stores in Everett, Lynnwood and Marysville, it has only had a donation center in Monroe until now.

The store will mirror other Snohomish County locations, with a large clothing area, a fashion focus department that highlights designer brand names, a collectibles area and aisles worth of utensils, electronics and books.

The store, already under construction, will open near the corner of Chain Lake Road and North Kelsey Street, across from Lowe’s home improvement store.

The location is near the site where a developer could bring a Wal-Mart, Costco or other big-box store.

“I understand this store is being located in an emerging retail area,” Goodwill spokeswoman Betsy McFeely said. “We’re excited to be a part of that community.”
